香港郵學會—集郵活動 2015-9-18The theme of Sept meeting was about "One-frame" exhibiting and judging. Our Chairman brought three One-frame exhibits to the meeting for discussion. The first exhibit that he showed was in the traditional philately class titled 'Hong Kong KGVI Wartime printings', the second exhibit was a postal history exhibit titled 'Sorting of mail onboard P&O mailboat in the Far East' and the third exhibit was an airmail exhibit titled '1946 Pan American Airways Speed Test mail'. The object of the exercise was to let members judge which one scored the highest points for 'Treatment and appropriateness as a one-frame exhibit'. 'Treatment and appropriateness' accounts for 30 points in assessing One-frame exhibit at FIP level and the points can be sub-divided into 20 points for treatment and 10 points for 'Importance of the subject' and 'appropriateness for One-frame exhibit' 50-50. Members were surprised to learn that the airmail exhibit scored the highest for 'Appropriateness for one-frame' since all covers relevant to the title are shown on the 16 sheets (see article in HKPS J17) and practically cannot be expanded into a multi-frame exhibit without duplication of material. The score for appropriateness would be high for the 'Sorting of mail onboard P&O mailboat in the Far East' since the exhibit showed marine-sorter postmarks (marcophily) rather than showing maritime mail as a subject, which then would have been a multi-frame exhibit. In the traditional class exhibit, the points for appropriateness would be lower since it is essentially part of a Hong Kong KGVI definitive stamp exhibit. Nevertheless, in a multiple frame Hong Kong KGVI definitive stamp exhibit, the treatment of the same subject would not be as extensive i.e. using 16 pages to show the wartime printings.
